Sparks Police car

The Sparks Police Department has seen an increase in thefts due to people leaving their cars after they've been started.

In the wintertime, people leave their cars unattained while running to let them warm up, but an online post from the Sparks Police says it's against the law.

According to Nevada Revised Statute 484B.530, it says any person in charge of a vehicle, not including commercial vehicles, while loading or unloading goods, should not be left unattended.

It also adds that before you leave the car, you must first stop the engine and remove the key from the ignition.

This revised statute doesn't apply to remote start, according to police.
