Registration is open for Speedway Saturdays, a monthly Mario Kart tournament for children and teens in grades K-12, including registered homeschooled students.

Separate sign-ups are required for each month and age group, and registration must be completed at least 24 hours before each event.

The tournaments will be held twice a month at the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with one Saturday dedicated to the Kids Tournament for participants under age 13 and another for the Teens Tournament for those aged 13 to 18.

The cost is $20 per child per tournament day. The first competition, the Kids Tournament, takes place Saturday, August 16.

“Our Parks and Recreation team is always looking for fresh and creative ways to inspire and engage the young people of our city,” said Vice Mayor Kathleen Taylor. “I’m truly excited to see our young people participating in this event, building connections, having fun, and creating lasting memories outside of school.”

The Kids Tournament will be held on August 16, September 13, October 11, November 8, and December 6.

The Teens Tournament is scheduled for August 30, September 27, October 25, November 22, and December 20.

Participants must be accompanied by someone age 12 or older at all times, as drop-offs are not allowed.

A lunch break will take place from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., during which the tournament room will be closed.

Tournament play will group competitors into age-based brackets, with winners advancing through elimination rounds. The top four players will compete in a final battle to determine the overall champion, who will receive a prize.

Parents and guardians can register their children through the City’s Parks and Recreation registration page.
