Law enforcement agencies across Nevada are preparing for increased seat belt enforcement as the statewide Joining Forces Click It or Ticket campaign begins May 13 and continues through May 21.

During the campaign, deputies, police, and troopers across the state will conduct additional patrols focused on seat belt compliance. The effort is aimed at encouraging drivers and passengers to wear seat belts on every trip, regardless of distance.

Traffic safety officials said seat belts remain one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injuries and deaths in crashes. Despite ongoing education campaigns, Nevada roadways continue to see fatal crashes involving people who were not wearing seat belts.

Officials reminded drivers and passengers to wear seat belts properly, with the lap and shoulder belt secured across the hips and chest. Wearing the shoulder belt behind the back or under the arm reduces effectiveness and increases the risk of injury in a crash.

The campaign is part of Nevada’s broader Zero Fatalities initiative, which focuses on reducing roadway deaths through education and enforcement targeting speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and unrestrained driving.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety provides funding for law enforcement agencies participating in the Joining Forces campaign.
