This weekend the St. Patrick's Day celebrations hit downtown Reno and it's important to keep safety in mind for the celebrations.

The best way to avoid drinking and driving is to not drive at all. Using ride sharing apps or taxi services are going to be the safest options if you plan on going out this weekend.

Plan your night ahead of time, both how you're going to get to your celebration location and how you're going to manage to get home. Be it driving, rideshare app or taxi service, planning this step before you go out for the evening can alleviate stress during the celebration.

Reduce any distractions. Taking a moment to put your phone away and readjust your mirrors can help to refocus your mind to be more present behind the wheel.

Avoid rushing out the door. Take the time to prepare for your evening before you're out of the house. If you need to pick up something before meeting up with your group, grab it the day before. Squeezing in that "one more thing" increases distractions.

If you see something, say something. Do not ignore things that seem strange or alarming. Bring it to the attention of bar staff, security or any police officer in the area.

Remember the "Angel Shot" code. If you feel unsafe in a bar, asking the bartender for an "Angel Shot" or "Asking for Angela" is a signal that will secretly alert your bartender that you would like to be escorted to safety by staff.

Avoid the area if you are not celebrating. The Downtown, Midtown and Brewery district areas will be crowded. Staying away from the area if you don't plan on celebrating will be the safest option.

Stay safe and stay alert this weekend, no one wants to spend their pot of gold on bail.
