A custody dispute in Northern Nevada led to a SWAT response and an arrest after law enforcement moved in to check on three children staying with their father in the Montello area.
The Elko County Sheriff’s Office was contacted regarding a custody dispute between Angelica Krovel, the mother, and Jacob Price, the father, according to the Elko County Sheriff’s Office in an online post.
Officials said three children, ages 10, 11, and 12, had been visiting their father in the Montello area for spring break, and Krovel reported that Price was not following a custody order and refused to return the children.
Officials said the custody order was issued in another state and was not enforceable in Nevada until it was reviewed by a state court. On April 16, the Fourth District Court in Elko County issued an order recognizing the out-of-state custody agreement.
Due to safety concerns identified during the investigation, the Elko County SWAT Team was called in on April 17 to arrest Price for allegedly violating the court order and to safely remove the children from the home, with officials noting weapons were likely involved.
During the execution of a search warrant at the remote home near Montello, deputies determined Price was a prohibited person and had 13 firearms.
The three children were safely reunited with their mother.
Price was arrested and charged with detaining, concealing, or removing a child in violation of a custody court order and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
The Elko County Sheriff’s Office thanked MedEx and Air St. Luke’s for their assistance in the investigation.
