For three decades, the Veterans Guest house in Reno has been supporting veterans in need of medical care, and their families. The need continues to grow.

"At the very beginning, we started as just providing temporary lodging," said Patrice Klaich, director of development for the Veterans Guest House. "But now we've expanded our services into transportation to and from doctors appointments, meals, we have a personal care assistant to help with post-operative care, and we have support for basic needs."

Next month, the Veterans Guest House is hosting one its most popular fundraisers, the annual Champagne Luncheon and Fashion Show.

Nevada National Guard Staff Sergeant Belen Page is suiting up for a different kind of mission - she's one of the models. It'll be her first time on the runway.

"I was very nervous because I don't know what to expect, but I think I'm doing great," she said.

Blythe Anderson, owner of Labels Consignment Boutique in Reno, is styling the models - all women in uniform - for the event.

"It brings me tears, just incredible," she said. "We see a picture of them in their military uniform, and then they come out in a gown and they're just cruising down the runway; it's amazing."

The fashion show luncheon has become a tradition more than a decade in the making.

"It's amazing; I get cold chills," Anderson said. "I love to put sequins on the runway because it sparkles and the whole thing comes to life, so I'm so excited for this year."

It's a way to support all the men and women that serve our country. Page has been serving since 2017.

"I have just recently extended another three years so trying to go for 20 years, or maybe even more. I very much enjoy spending time with my soldiers, they're my motivation to keep going and working together and just seeing them grow makes me happy. I've seen a lot of them since the day they've entered until now, picking up sergeant, moving to different units, just expanding their careers and it makes me really happy, like a proud mom."

There's still a few tables left for the event at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa on October 18.

"It's a great celebration in honor of our veterans," Klaich said.
