This school year, the FAFSA Simplification Act went into effect for colleges nationwide.

It was passed with the intention of making the process of getting federal student aid easier and more accessible to families, but some students say, that hasn't been the case.

Some University of Nevada, Reno students say the process has been pretty easy, while others say it has been a nightmare.

One student said the process has been confusing, and he is still waiting to find out if he is receiving federal aid.

"I don't know why it has made me restart with my application like multiple times and to this day I still don't have financial aid. Good thing I have veterans benefits to help me with this year," said T.J. Milton, a freshman at The University of Nevada, Reno.

With the school year officially starting Monday for The University of Nevada, Reno, students such as Milton are running out of time.

Other students said during the process, they had to re-create their account multiple times, or continuously re-submit the same forms.

In April of this year, the Federal Student Aid office released an online update saying approximately 30% of FAFSA forms were potentially affected by processing or data errors.

"Sometimes their website would be down, and their customer service really isn't the best because they don't respond as fast as you would think something sanctioned by the U.S federal government would," said Arky Kwong, a freshman at The University of Nevada, Reno.

The University of Nevada, Reno has a financial aid office located on the third floor of the Fitzgerald Student Services building.

Students at The University of Nevada, Reno can walk into this building Monday through Friday for support or email finaid@unr.edu.
