The University of Nevada, Reno School of Public Health has earned reaccreditation through December 2033 after meeting all national accreditation criteria, reinforcing the university’s commitment to preparing students for careers in public health.
The Council on Education for Public Health, an independent accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, confirmed the school met 100% of its accreditation criteria. The council accepted the accreditation site visit team’s report without revisions to its findings.
The reaccreditation process included a comprehensive review of the school’s educational quality, academic programs, faculty qualifications, student outcomes, research, and community engagement. The multiyear process involved an extensive institutional self-study and an on-site evaluation completed in April 2026.
“This outstanding achievement is a powerful affirmation of the excellence of our School, our academic programs, faculty and staff, students, research enterprise, community engagement, governance, and unwavering commitment to continuous improvement,” said Muge Akpinar-Elci, dean of the School of Public Health.
For students, the accreditation assures that their education meets nationally recognized standards for public health training. It also supports eligibility for certain professional credentials and employment opportunities.
The school offers undergraduate and graduate programs in public health, epidemiology, health analytics and biostatistics, kinesiology and public health practice.
Those programs prepare students for careers in research, health policy, disease prevention, community health and other fields focused on improving public health in Nevada and beyond.
Akpinar-Elci said the achievement reflects years of work across the school community.
"Accreditation is never the result of the efforts of a single individual or team. Rather, it reflects years of dedication, collaboration, and hard work across our entire School community," Akpinar-Elci said.
The reaccreditation recognizes the contributions of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners as the school continues its work in public health education, research, and community partnerships.
