Halloween is more than just a one-day celebration in Virginia City; it's an entire month. In fact, the city is getting ready to kick off its first of many events for "Hauntober" starting on Saturday. This event is called the Red Run.

Todd Tuttle, director of tourism for Virginia City, says, "We're bringing it back after seven years, and surprisingly it's the seventh anniversary too, so it's Red Run 7: The Resurrection and here they'll be all over Virginia city as they go from place to place and they discover the background, the history, they solve the clues, the puzzles, the mysteries that are going on."

Of course, participants will be chased by zombies the entire time, too. Tuttle says they're expecting up to 3,000 people to come up and either run or observe on Saturday.

If running isn't your thing, there's still plenty of other opportunities to enjoy during Hauntober.

Virginia City is known for its haunted attractions, including the Mackay Mansion. It will be turned into a haunted house. Yes, more haunted than it already is. That will happen on the last weekend of October and on Halloween night.

Dawn Dessaussois, caretaker of the mansion, says, "This is one of our biggest events of the year, and for us, the proceeds for the mansion it helps the restoration of the building. Because we're the only mansion that's still open to the public."
