Former Nevada legislator James Settelmeyer has announced he's running for Rep. Mark Amodei's Congressional seat.
“I believe in limited government, fiscal responsibility, and the power of local communities to shape their own future,” Settelmeyer said. “I will fight to secure our borders, strengthen our economy, and preserve the freedoms that make Nevada and America exceptional."
He served in the Nevada Assembly, then Nevada State Senate for a total of 16 years.
Settelmeyer lives in Gardnerville with his family and continues to operate his family ranch. He was appointed Director of the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources by Governor Joe Lombardo.
Amodei announced his retirement last month after serving as the U.S. Representative for Nevada’s Second Congressional District since 2011.
Nevada's Second Congressional District includes the majority of Lyon County, Carson City, and all of Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Pershing, Storey, Washoe, and White Pine counties.
