At the start of the 2026-2027 school year, kindergarten students in Washoe County will start school at the same time as students in grades 1-5.
The Nevada Department of Education introduced a new statewide requirement starting next school year that kindergarten must have its own calendar if it starts or ends on different dates than grades 1–5, according to a release from the Washoe County School District.
Rather than create two calendars, the district decided to simplify things by aligning the start and end dates between kindergarten and 1-5 grade.
That means that August 10, 2026, will mark the start of classes for all students from kindergarten through 5th grade.
The change will apply to all kindergarten programs districtwide, including Special Education, English Learner, Pre-K, Early Childhood, and other district-supported programs.
All calendars have been updated to reflect the change and are available at this link.
