The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has released a statement on President Trump's proposed immigration policies.
The statement comes from Sheriff Darrin Balaam.
“The safety and security of our community is my top priority. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is committed to providing fair and professional law enforcement services to protect everyone we serve. Assisting in the apprehension of violent criminals is a must to ensuring the safety of our citizens.
“Immigration enforcement is the responsibility of federal agencies. Our role is limited to assisting only when necessary to address public safety concerns. If a specific request is made by ICE or another federal agency, we will provide support services as required during their operations. However, we do not question the immigration status of victims or witnesses of crimes, as their safety and cooperation are essential to our mission.
“We remain dedicated to upholding the highest standards of public service while fostering a safe and secure environment for all residents of Washoe County.”
