A new state-of-the-art Career and Technical Education program, Debbie Smith CTE Academy, set to open its doors in August 2025, will be hosting an informational open house on Saturday, September 28 at the site once home to Procter R. Hug High School.
The event will be held at 2880 Sutro Street in reno, the future home of the Academy on the football field located at the corner of Sutro Street and McCarran Boulevard from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.Â
Organizers say there will be signs to follow on Sutro Street for parking.Â
The event will have booths set up on the field where students and their families can learn more about the educational opportunities offered, talk with staff members, and ask questions to see if this might be a good fit for your student.Â
The Debbie Smith CTE Academy learning facility, soon to be the home of the Mavericks, when complete will include 40 teaching stations, spaces for CTE Academies, and space for high school athletics.Â
The program an advanced career and technical academy that will provide students access to college pathways as well as career certifications is already accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year for all incoming freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior grade level students.
Applications will close on October 18, 2024. Â
The program will have representatives from each of the CTE programs at the school available on-site to answer any questions or provide information about the nine separate CTE Academies that will be housed at the school including:Â
- Practical Nursing and Nursing Assistant
- Building Construction and Technology
- BioMedical
- Marketing and Multimedia
- Natural Resources and Animal Sciences
- Welding and Metalworking
- Teaching and Training
- Engineering and Manufacturing
- Culinary Arts with Hospitality and Tourism
Debbie Smith Career and Technical Education Academy is set to open in August of 2025. We are an advanced career and technical academy that provides access to college pathways as well as career certifications. Our students will leave Debbie Smith prepared for the future they choose, through the real life, relevant, and rigorous curriculum that all of our students will be given access to.
