29-year-old Elvira Monroy was sentenced today and will be eligible for parole after 15 months. She was convicted of killing her and her boyfriend's dog, a 12-week old named Lily.

Monroy had pled guilty to the charge of Willfully or Maliciously Torture, Maim, Mutilate or Kill a Dog Kept for Companionship or Pleasure - a felony in Nevada.

She was arrested in July 2024 after Reno Police responded to her home. Her boyfriend said that he and Monroy had gotten into an argument and broken up, after which Monroy killed the puppy and tossed it in their apartment dumpster.

An investigation by Reno Police found that she had strangled the dog with a black electrical cord.
