A man was arrested for felony DUI after a crash on U.S. 50 in the South Lake Tahoe area on Saturday that sent three to the hospital, two with major injuries.
37-year-old Zachary M. Leconte showed symptoms of alcohol intoxication after the crash, which involved three vehicles according to a release from California Highway Patrol.
Authorities say Leconte was driving westbound in a Dodge van when he made an unsafe turn to the left on a curved portion of the road. Leconte allegedly lost control of the Dodge, swerving into the eastbound lane and hitting a Toyota Rav-4.
That Toyota rolled onto the shoulder of the road while the Dodge continued westbound in the eastbound lane, hitting a Honda CR-V head-on. After that crash, both the Dodge and the Honda came to a stop blocking the eastbound traffic lane.
Leconte, as well as the driver and passenger of the Honda, were taken to Barton Memorial Hospital. The Honda driver and passenger suffered major injuries while Leconte was listed as having suffered minor injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota suffered moderate injuries, but the release does not say they were taken to the hospital.
