The Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley hosted a Memorial Day service.
Many people, including service members, families and members of the community, were in attendance.
For many people, Memorial Day holds a special place in their heart, and it is a difficult reminder that some service men and women were not able to make it home to their families.
"They were my idols, and they didn't come home. In Vietnam it was 58,000 when I was there that didn't come home. They were killing 100 of us a day and so the 58,000 that didn't come home, I came here to honor them today, we can never forget them," said David Bacon, a Vietnam War Veteran.
The ceremony featured a number of speakers highlighting the meaning behind the holiday.
After the ceremony, everyone in attendance began visiting the gravesites of fallen veterans.
For one mother, it's been 14 years since her son passed away, but she is thankful for the opportunity to visit him in Fernley every year.
"It really gets in my heart and brings back special happy memories of my son. It is just beautiful here and they honor the veterans here very well," said Paula Brown.
Along with an American flag at every tombstone, people also left special decorations and flowers, and some people even trimmed overgrown grass.
Tomorrow, members of the community are welcome to assist with the removal of over 8,000 flags placed at the cemetery.
