A mountain lion was spotted by police early Friday morning in the Mammoth Lakes area.
The Mammoth Lakes Police Department shared images of the big cat on their Facebook page, saying the pictures were snapped by Officer Hoodman on Lake Mary Road.
The mountain lion was spotted around 2 a.m. on Friday.
Mammoth Lakes Police shared the following tips from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in case you ever encounter a mountain lion.
- Stay alert on trails
- Walk with small children and do not let them run ahead
- Keep pets leashed
- Never approach a mountain lion, be sure to give them an escape route
- Do not run, instead stay calm and do not turn your back
- While facing the mountain lion, make loud noises and try to look bigger
- If you are with small children put them on your shoulders
- Do not crouch down or bend over
