Paul Thomas Anderson has won his first Oscar for best director, and it comes for his new film “One Battle After Another.” On Sunday, the Academy honored Anderson for a sweeping political drama. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as part of a group of activists facing shifting alliances and power struggles. The win caps more than two decades of acclaimed filmmaking. Anderson broke through with “Boogie Nights” and followed with films like “Magnolia” and “There Will Be Blood.” Other nominees included Ryan Coogler and Chloé Zhao.
