Michael B. Jordan has won best actor at the Academy Awards for his double-duty performance as the twins Smoke and Stack in Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners.” After a lionized career stretching back three decades, Paul Thomas Anderson won his first Oscar for best director, a long-in-coming coronation for the “One Battle After Another” filmmaker. "Sinners” cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw has made Oscar history, becoming the first female director of photography to win the award in the 98 year history of the Academy Awards. Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler won their first Oscars and moving tributes were paid to Robert Redford, Diane Keaton and Rob Reiner at the 98th Academy Awards.
Michael B. Jordan has won the best-actor Oscar for his role in “Sinners.” He plays identical twins Smoke and Stack in the supernatural horror film set in 1930s Mississippi that earned a record 16 Oscar nominations. Jordan is the sixth Black man to win an Oscar for best actor, adding his name to a list that includes Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington. “Sinners” reunited Jordan and writer-producer-director Ryan Coogler, who go back to their first collaboration in 2020. The ceremony was Sunday night.
