A second sloth dies after transfer to a central Florida zoo from troubled Sloth World

A second sloth has died after being taken to a central Florida zoo for rehabilitation. The sloth, named Habanero, was euthanized Saturday at the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens. He was part of a group of a dozen sloths given up by Sloth World, a tourist attraction that never opened. Another sloth, Bandit, also died last week. Zoo officials said the sloths were underweight and had gastrointestinal issues. A criminal investigation into Sloth World's treatment of the animals is underway. Inspection reports revealed 31 sloth deaths between December 2024 and February 2025.
