A potentially historic drop for Alphabet's stock is dragging the U.S. stock market lower. The S&P 500 fell 0.4% Thursday and was on track for its first loss in four days, while the Nasdaq composite tumbled 1.4%. The stock price of Google's parent company was on track for its worst drop on record after reporting weaker growth for the summer than analysts expected. Most of the other U.S. stocks rose, though, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped by a more modest 0.3%, or 162 points.
