Pressure continues to bear down on Wall Street from the bond market, keeping U.S. stocks in check following what had been a strong rally. The S&P 500 slipped 0.2% Thursday and is on track for a third straight decline after rallying to the brink of its all-time high, which was set last month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 182 points, and the Nasdaq composite fell 0.5%. Oil prices climbed, which helped keep Treasury yields near their highest levels in years. High yields make borrowing money more expensive for everyone, slow the economy and undercut prices for investments.
