Top diplomats from the Group of 20 largest world economies appeared far apart on critical global security issues as they began meeting in Atlanta. European objections to Russia’s participation forced the U.S. hosts to cancel a traditional group photo planned for Friday. That underscored deep rifts among the group over global crises that threaten international security and trade, such as Russia's war in Ukraine. Still, Rubio opened the meeting saying he hoped it can be productive. Diplomats who attended the opening session described it as cordial but said Russia's position on Ukraine remains unyielding.
