Thailand Floods

Incessant rain has hammered several areas of Thailand’s capital, disrupting traffic and forcing hundreds to evacuate. Authorities declared the city a disaster area. Thailand’s Meteorological Department warned that the deluge, which began Thursday, would continue through Sunday. Accumulated rainfall in many areas of Bangkok exceeded 11 inches. Floodwaters spread across the city, blocking roads and stopping traffic. More than 84,000 people in 21 provinces have been affected by flooding. Many businesses in Bangkok closed on Saturday, and some regional bus services were suspended. Authorities set up over 200 shelters, with about 900 people moving in.
