Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo came into town on Wednesday to share more details about America250, the nation's celebration of America's 250th birthday following the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776.
The Governor also called for the community's involvement in the celebration.
Every state will have their own way of celebrating, including Nevada. The state has decided to hold a six-month long celebration.
The non-partisan event runs from January 1st through July 4th, 2026.
Brenda Scolari, the Director of Tourism and Cultural Affairs for the State of Nevada says it's a once in a lifetime event and they want to focus on celebrating the value of volunteerism and civic involvement in communities.
“The Governor has initiated a commission that will oversee much of this work and special funding that will hopefully fund some legacy projects that will live on beyond July 4th of 2026,” she said.
“The plans are designed to help us learn more about the constitution, engage with our friends and family on volunteer projects across the Nevada and to celebrate our nation,” said Governor Joe Lombardo.
“But more important than the fireworks and parades, this is an opportunity to use this time to come together as Americans and as Nevadans,” the Governor added.
Those organizing this celebration will have full details to share on the program for the months long endeavor in the first quarter of 2025, which is also when the commission will start meeting for the planning of the celebration taking place in 2026.
“It’s going to be a national celebration, right? So, every state in the union will have their style of celebrating so Vegas and Reno will do it but we hope that every community in the state will as well,” said Scolari.
But they say to make this work they're going to need the community and organizations to get involved.
Scolari says there are state and federal resources going into this, and if you would like to learn more you can click the link here.
