The Elko Police Department (EPD) has shared details of a recent traffic stop that turned into a drug bust.

On Friday, June 13 the EPD Crime Suppression Unit pulled over Carlos Nunez on a routine traffic stop.

During the stop, K9 officer Rudy was deployed and alerted to the odor of drugs in the vehicle. The vehicle was then searched, and officers allegedly located around 140 grams of fentanyl. With that, Nunez was arrested.

Further investigation by officials led to a search warrant being issued for a hotel room where Nunez was allegedly staying. After a search of the room, officers found more fentanyl. Additionally, a second person, Cheyenne Peterson, was also in the room and was taken into custody.
