April 21 - 27 is National Volunteer Week, and the Red Cross of Northern Nevada is looking for people interested in volunteering.

Red Cross volunteers help by responding to disasters and offering support to affected communities.

Volunteers provide food, shelter, comfort and hope to those in emergency situations. They are also trained in lifesaving skills and provide support to military members and veterans.

Two of the volunteer positions include the Shelter Support Team and the Disaster Action Team.

The Shelter Support Team helps with day-to-day activities during large disasters. They can help with registering residents, meal service, distributing cots, blankets and hygiene supplies, and more.

The Disaster Action Team offers comfort and support to families impacted by smaller disasters such as home fires. They provide food, shelter, clothing and supplies, and help families find assistance.

If you are interested in becoming a Red Cross volunteer, you can contact Ericka Smith at (775) 225-3392 or ericka.smith@redcross.org
