Reno's first and only cat café is branching out to save even more pets in need. Formerly known as Enchanted Cat Café, Kitty Kisses Cat Café has been helping homeless felines find families for the last two and a half years.
"I think we're a great resource for the community," said owner Kallie Laity. "We get to interact with these kitties, see what their personalities are, and hopefully get them into great forever homes."
It's been especially busy here over the last six months. Laity has renamed the business to align with her new nonprofit, Kitty Kisses Rescue of Reno, with a focus on education.
"Our four pillars are kindness, knowledge, responsibility and respect, so we want to do some outreach programs, educate the community, just spread the word," she said.
The goals here are the same but the hope is the scope can be a much larger one.
"It opens up so many doors for us," Laity said. "We're able to do a lot more education, a lot more fundraising, which is super important because vet bills are very expensive and we're very excited to move forward with this."
Now, the new nonprofit is taking donations and looking for volunteers and foster families.
"We do have PayPal and GoFundMe set up, we do take physical donations and supplies and we're super grateful," she said.
There's a lot of work ahead but here, there's always time for a little break.
"It's a great job," Laity said. "Any time I'm stressed I just head back here, lay down, and get a pile of cats on me and everything is okay again."
