The Reno Fire Department is reminding residents to check their smoke alarms for the beginning of Daylight Saving Time.

Clocks will skip ahead one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 10.

Reno Fire Marshal, John Beck, reminds citizens that smoke alarms are an important part of a home fire escape plan.

"Working smoke alarms give the residents an early warning so they can escape the fire and get outside quickly,” said Fire Marshal Beck. “Checking alarm batteries or thinking about home evacuations twice a year is a good idea for anybody.”

It is important for residents to test and change the batteries in all their home smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, just to be safe.
