The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory starting on Wednesday afternoon and running through Wednesday night for many areas throughout the region.

The advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Western Nevada Basin and Range, including Pyramid Lake, according to the NWS in Reno.

Areas listed in the advisory include Lovelock, Imlay, Fallon, Fernley, Nixon, and Silver Springs.

People should expect west winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 50.

Wave heights of two to five feet could be seen on Pyramid Lake, with the worst of them expected on the eastern shores.

Winds could blow around unsecured objects and tree limbs. Power outages may also result from the winds.

Small boats, kayaks, and paddle boats could capsize and should be kept off the lake waters.
