In preparations for the 4th of July weekend, multiple organizations have come together to transform Zephyr Cove and Shoals into 'Tahoe Blue Beaches' in time for the holiday weekend, on Monday, July 1.Â
The BEBOT, short for 'beach robot', capable of cleaning 32,000-square-feet per hour, will clean the full length of the beach leaving behind pristine sand.
BEBOT is all-electric, solar and battery-powered - it can sift through sand and remove small debris, including bits of litter and plastics.
Along with the robot cleaning the beach, dozens of portable restrooms, handwashing stations and fencing will also be installed. Â
Later in the week, signs and additional trash cans will be put in different locations across the beach to make it more convenient for the public.Â
This preparation is all part of the Tahoe Blue Beaches pilot program. To learn more click here.
League to Save Lake Tahoe along with the other organizations involved hope that with these proactive steps and preparations, beachgoers will be encouraged to leave the beach as clean or cleaner than it was found, doing their part to Keep Tahoe Blue.Â
