Friday night was the official Christmas tree lighting for the Sparks City Christmas tree at Hometownw Christmas.Â
The event took place at Victorian Square and featured hot chocolate, visits with Santa, and local vendors.Â
Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson thanked the community and lit the tree, a 60-foot Sequoia grown right here in Sparks.Â
City Council Member Donald Abbott was also in attendance, helping Santa as his right-hand elf-
"For the last nine years, I've helped decorate the Christmas tree. I volunteer for 39 North every year. I take Santa photos, and we donate our photos back to the kiddos. They get to talk to Santa and get some great photos out of it."Â
The event will also happen on Saturday at 11 a.m., and the holiday parade is from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
You may even see some familiar 2 News Nevada faces involved with the parade.Â
