The pressure at the pump continues to increase in our area.

Miranda Hoover, MPA, the state executive for the Energy and Convenience Association of Nevada, says the reason we're seeing an increase in gas prices as of right now is because of two things.

1. Cold weather the nation has been experiencing.

2. International events happening in Iran.

Hoover says, unfortunately, retail gas prices are slower to adjust to wholesale prices overall when international events occur.

AAA is also reporting that average gas prices in Reno have risen fourteen cents since a week ago, with the statewide average rising eleven cents in that time.

We asked area residents how they're feeling about the recent increases.

Erik Leverson, a Carson City resident, tells us, "Between making the commute on a daily basis, putting about 75 miles on my truck a day, so I'm visiting the pumps more than once a week, I absolutely can see the difference in where the prices are now to where they've been over the last month or two."

He adds, "It gets a lot more expensive at the pump, and what was a $60 fill-up is now an $85 fill-up."

Leverson recommends using rewards at different gas stations to try to save money on gas.

He also says he sees a huge difference in prices at the pump in Carson City compared to Reno, by thirty or fifty cents per gallon.

"They had me fooled, and I was looking for it, and it was fun being at the pumps a little while ago when you saw two dollars in front of the gas sign, but that was brief," he said.

Ever Sanchez, a Reno resident, gives some advice to those who may be stressed about the increase in gas prices.

"Go to Carson City; in Carson City, it's less," he said.

He says he thinks some people haven't noticed the increase.

"I haven't heard people say that it's going up, or maybe they haven't noticed it, because you normally put your card in Apple Pay and start fueling, so you probably don't realize that," he said.
