The Storey County Sheriff's Office has added a new 'deputy' to its force.Â
Meet Angus!
He's a 2,000 pound, 10-year-old 19th Shire/Percheron cross horse that was donated to the Storey County Mounted Unit to replace Diesel, that previously died.Â
Deputies say, "Angus‘ unique history includes two+ years as a full-time police horse with the Kansas City Police Department. Angus fought a year-long battle in 2023 with eye cancer, and recently had to have his eye removed."
They say that another one of their horses, Jasper also had eye cancer.Â
Deputies say you might see Angus out and about walking around the county during training. "He is going through a mounted police school refresher course to get him back up to speed to serve the community this spring and summer!"
Storey County has a fundraising page where people can buy clothing to help the Mounted Unit buy hay, supplements, tack, vet bills, and operations supplies.Â
