A Washoe County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant has been honored for his work with the Special olympics.

Lieutenant Joseph Colacurcio was named Law Enforcement Torch Run Volunteer of the Year by Special Olympics Nevada.

He was honored at an awards ceremony at the Sheriff's Office, attended by a Special Olympics athlete, their coach and Northern Nevada Development Coordinator Brianne Durfee.

"Lt. Colacurcio’s dedication to the Special Olympics spans a number of fundraising events, including TIP A COP, the South Lake Tahoe Polar Plunge, the Law Enforcement Torch Run, and Bowl for the Gold," said the Sheriff's Office in a thread on their X page.

The thread goes on to say that Colacurcio even created a new fundraiser, the CanAm Charity Hockey game hosted by the Reno Ice Raiders.
