Many in the Middle East remain on edge after the United States carried out limited strikes on Iranian targets just hours before Tuesday’s midterm elections in the U.S. The strikes in the Strait of Hormuz are raising more questions about what’s coming next. For weeks, President Donald Trump has alternated between threatening major strikes and pushing for a deal with Iran. A U.S. official said Monday that the strikes targeted Iranians using surface-to-air missiles against the U.S. in the strait. The official wasn’t authorized to comment publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. Talks aimed at avoiding a new wave of large-scale U.S. and Israeli strikes are ongoing.
