Britain has announced an expansion of military support to defend Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks. Defense Secretary Wes Streeting said Royal Air Force jets will conduct defensive air patrols to protect Saudi cities and infrastructure but would not strike Houthi targets on the ground. The U.K. also will send a military transport and advisers, and has offered to extend its in-air refueling of Saudi planes by 90 days. These moves come as regional conflicts spread, including recent attacks in Yemen and Gaza and airstrikes by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels that have forced the Saudi kingdom to cancel events and close classrooms.
