Hurricane Simon pounds Mexico’s Pacific coast as a Category 4 storm. Its eye remains offshore, but powerful winds and rain are hitting areas between the Sierra Madre and the ocean. The storm is expected to impact Puerto Vallarta around midnight Sunday and continue through Monday morning. Its maximum sustained winds have weakened to 130 mph, but it remains dangerous. The U.S. National Hurricane Center warns of catastrophic wind, life-threatening storm surges and heavy rainfall. Authorities have suspended classes and evacuated at-risk areas. President Claudia Sheinbaum urges residents to stay sheltered and follow safety recommendations.
