Nevada Highway Patrol has released more details after a head-on crash killed two people on U.S. 95 near Walker Lake in Mineral County earlier this month.
NHP says a preliminary investigation shows that on August 6th, a red 2018 Mazda 5 was traveling south on US-95 while a black 2014 Chevrolet Impala was driving north on US-95, when the Mazda went into the northbound lane to pass cars in the passing zone.Â
Troopers say the driver swerved left trying to miss the Chevrolet, while the Chevy swerved right. Both cars went off the roadway to the east of the US-95.
The front of the Mazda struck the front of the Chevrolet.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 42-year-old Joshua Hodges of Hawthorne died on scene. A 9-year-old rear passenger, also in the Chevy, later died at the hospital.Â
This crash is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) - NHP Case #210800362.
A black long-haired dachshund was reported went missing after the crash. If you see it, you're asked to contact Washoe County Animal Control, or Mineral County or Churchill County.Â
