The Nevada Highway Patrol says a Fernley man died in a motorcycle crash while trying to elude Churchill County deputies in Fallon on Friday night.

Troopers say shortly before the 9 p.m. accident, a deputy saw the motorcyclist, 23-year-old Gregory L. Vasquez of Fernley, violate an unidentified traffic law on Harrigan Road and tried to make a traffic stop. But, troopers say he ignored the marked patrol car following him and sped away. The deputy eventually lost sight of the 2004 Honda CBR600RR motorcycle, but believed Vasquez may have turned onto New River Parkway, which has no outlet, and parked his patrol car near that intersection.

A short time later, Vasquez doubled back to the intersection, saw the patrol vehicle, and drove away once more. Now heading east again on New River Parkway, troopers say Vasquez braked hard while turning right. His motorcycle hit a curb then a tree and ejected Vasquez from the bike. He was transported to Banner Churchill Community Hospital where he later died.

Trooper Doug Farris is investigating this crash. Witnesses or anyone with additional information about this event are encouraged to contact him at (775) 689-4614 or dfarris@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-140800112.
