Nevada Highway Patrol troopers say a woman remains in critical condition after a weekend car accident near Yerington. The driver has been arrested on DUI-related charges.
Troopers say a preliminary investigation indicates that a white Ford Crown Victoria driven by 45-year-old Pete Gonzales of Yerington was heading south on State Route 339 near Yerington late Sunday morning when for some unknown reason, he drifted left, crossed the center line and drove into the oncoming lane. The vehicle then hit some rocks and boulders on the northbound shoulder before striking a decorative arch near a home.
Troopers say Gonzales and passenger, Edward Wedlake, were both wearing seat belts. A second passenger, Edith Nance was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the sedan. Nance was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno by Care Flight where she remains in critical condition.
Troopers say impairment is believed to be involved in the accident.
Gonzales was arrested and taken to Lyon County Jail where he was booked for felony DUI crash resulting in injuries, driving left of center, open container and driving without a valid driver’s license.
