Nicaraguan dancers are in town to give Reno a taste of their culture, but these dancers from "Capital on Edge" are in the U.S. with a purpose.
Jed Brien, the Director of Capital on Edge says "the county is on the brink of a civil war the people are taking to the streets daily."
The protests are against pension cuts and tax increases but even before the violence, some of the members of the group grew up living in unfavorable conditions.
Mylon Vallecillo, a dancer in the group, said "I was always in the street doing bad things like stealing from people. Now that I'm with the group I'm a better person."
Some say joining the group has changed their lives and they say that their goal is to give kids and teens an outlet from the violence.
Capital on Edge youth will be performing:
Friday, 7 p.m. at Centro de Restauracion Bethesda Reno, at 3200 Sutro Street
Sunday, 6 p.m. at Iglesia Zhion, at 3940 Spring Drive
