North Tahoe Fire Protection District announces a new Division Chief, Battalion Chiefs, and Captains at North Tahoe Fire

Tahoe City, CA – Multiple changes are in store at North Tahoe Fire Protection District (NTFPD), as employees move up in the ranks. The District is pleased to introduce two new appointments to Battalion Chief, and two new appointments to Captain. These changes follow the promotion of Battalion Chief Todd Conradson to Division Chief for Fire Prevention, Fire/Life Safety, and Fire Marshall a few weeks prior.
New Division Chief for Fire Prevention Fire/Life Safety, and Fire Marshall, Chief Conradson began his emergency services career in 1983 while serving in the United States Coast Guard. After serving five years in the U.S. Coast Guard, the ambitious firefighter/paramedic was hired by Tahoe City Fire in 1991 which consolidated with North Tahoe Fire in 1993, where he filled numerous roles, most recently Batallion Chief of Fire and Life Safety.
Greg Smith has been promoted to Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief. Greg has completed almost 25 years with the district and has served as Captain for the last 16 years. Greg has also filled the role of Battalion Chief as needed in a “Working out of Class” capacity frequently over the last few years. Greg will begin filling his new role Saturday, January 7, 2017.
Captain Steve McNamara has been appointed to Emergency Medical Services Battalion Chief. Steve began his career with the District in 1999 and promoted to Captain in 2012. Steve has worked hard to complete the requirements for Chief Officer Certification with the state, and has recently begun working out of class as Battalion Chief. Steve will begin his duties effective January 9, 2017.
Gary Nelson has been appointed to Captain. Gary began his career with the District in 1991 as a part-time firefighter. He joined the fulltime ranks in 1999 as Firefighter / Paramedic. Gary has been serving as Driver Operator / Engineer since 2001. Gary has worked hard to complete the requirements for Company Officer Certification with the state, and has been “Working out of Class” on a regular basis for the last few years. Gary has accepted this new position and will begin his new role as one Captains effective Friday, January 13, 2017.
Jamie Sheppard has been appointed to Captain. Jamie has completed almost 11 years with the District and has served as Driver Operator / Engineer since 2008. Jamie has also filled the role of Captain quite frequently in a “Working out of Class” capacity over the last two years. Jamie has accepted the position and will begin filling his new role as one of the Captains effective Monday, January 9, 2017.
