Northern California Gas Stations Running Out of Gas as Fourth of July Weekend Approaches

A shortage of tank-truck drivers and a post pandemic travel surge is causing gas shortages across the country, including in Northern California.

The travel surge is causing a supply-chain bottleneck for gas. The trade group "National Tank Truck Carriers" says somewhere between 20 to 25% of tank trucks are sitting idle across the country, and industry experts say the pandemic caused massive driver shortages.

Prices at the pump are already the highest they have been since 2014. The national average now sits at $3.10 per gallon.
