UPDATE: The University of Nevada, Reno Panera Bread is gearing up to open this year, despite being delayed two times over the course of the pandemic.

Officials said due to the coronavirus, it's been challenging to train staff and operate a 24-hour bakery with decreased foot traffic right now.

Nevada Dining released this statement on Thursday:

“Panera is expected to open late September.  We will know more as the date draws nearer as we will continue to follow both Washoe County guidelines and University policies regarding in-person attendance, gatherings and on-campus dining directives.”

Officials say the opening of Panera Bread's University of Nevada, Reno will be at the beginning of the Fall 2020 semester. The exact date of opening is  September 1, 2020.

The location was set to open on March 31, 2020 but was pushed back due to the pandemic.

A representative with the University of Nevada says the new Panera Bread location on campus is set to open at the end of March.

It will be located inside the Fitzgerald Student Services building next to the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex, along north Virginia Street.

As we’ve reported, Panera Bread was set to open in fall of 2019 but David Stipech with UNR says that construction delays based on the design of the building caused some setbacks.
