Police Chief Michael Kelly says six people have been killed, including an officer, in a shooting that sprawled across Jersey City.
The furious gunbattle filled the streets of the New Jersey waterfront city Tuesday with the sound of heavy gunfire.
Officials say they believe the bloodshed was not an act of terrorism, but it is still under investigation.
Kelly says an officer, two potential suspects and three potential bystanders have been killed.

Video shows a line of police officers armed with weapons pointed in several directions walking down the sidewalk.
"We need a lot of prayers right now for Jersey City officers. Keep all those involved in your thoughts," the New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association tweeted.
Nearby schools, in the South district of Jersey City, have been placed on lockdown. All students and staff are safe, according to the Jersey City School District.
"All students and staff are safe however a number of schools are currently on locked down due to pollution activity," the school district tweeted.
The New Jersey State Police Benevolent Association tweeted: "We need a lot of prayers right now for Jersey City officers. Keep all those involved in your thoughts."
