From CBS News:

Pope Francis had a busy day in Cuba. He met with Fidel Castro at his home and held a massive outdoor mass in Revolution Square where the Pope is urging Cubans not to neglect one another as the country opens up to social and economic changes.

Before an audience of hundreds of thousands,  Pope Francis delivered a historic Sunday morning mass.  His message centered on serving people - not ideas.

Many waited hours in oppressive heat - to catch a glimpse of the Pope.  Sister Gladys Areas-Cortez  had the chance to greet him.

After mass, Francis had the meeting many were anticipating. He met privately with former Cuban leader Fidel Castro at his home. The Vatican says the pope talked about the environment and other world issues. Father Lombardi said that the Pope was "very happy about this meeting, the members of the family of Fidel were present, and the conversation was informal and familiar."

The holy father also met with Fidel’s brother President Raul Castro and other Cuban leaders .

Thalia Gonzalez - who attended today’s mass - believes the pope may inspire many Cubans to join the church again, saying that "he is not superficial… he is very human and that’s the best of the Pope."

During  Fidel Castro’s regime many Catholics stopped following their faith.  currently only 10 percent of Catholics in Cuba are practicing.

The Pope’s focus tonight is young people. He’s going to be meeting with about two thousand young Cubans at a recreation center.
