Preserving Reno's history is more than a hobby for members of the Historic Reno Preservation Society. Not only do they recognize the area's precious past and celebrate those to take the time and effort to preserve it, they also invest in continuing the trend.
"We want to show people how wonderful Reno's old neighborhoods are and we want to show off the gems here that people are taking such great care of," says Sharon Honig-Bear. "And it's such a treat to see them."
Well everyone is invited to see the six homes selected for this year's tour this weekend.Â
"Not only do you get to tour the outside gardens and appreciate the architecture, you get to go inside and see how people have preserved their integrity while turning these beautiful homes into something they can live in today," Honig-Bear says.
There are six historic homes on the tour this year. Including a mission style model home on Brett Harte and a cute yellow Victorian on Wonder Street.Â
"Even more than being a Victorian," Honig-Bear says, "that home on Wonder is what what used to call a pattern book home. Back then you could look through a catalogue and pick out a house and they would ship you all the pieces and deliver it to your house for you to build. And back then it was like $25-hundred for everything you needed."
That house on Wonder street is the oldest on the tour this year. Tickets for the self-paced tour are available at 10 location around town including St. Ives Flourist, the Garden Shop Nursery and Sundance Books and Music.
