Biden to Dems: Focus On Health Care, Not Court Expansion

After announcing his pick for secretary of Health and Human Services on Sunday, President-elect Biden filled in the rest of his team on Monday.

Dr. Anthony Fauci will serve as the chief medical adviser on COVID-19, as well as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infections Diseases.

Other positions nominated include:

  • Dr. Vivek Murthy - U.S. Surgeon General
  • Dr. Rochelle Walensky - Director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith - Chair of COVID-19 Equity Task Force
  • Jeff Zients - Coordinator of the COVID-19 Response and Counselor to the President
  • Natalie Quillian - Deputy Coordinator of the COVID-19 Response

Biden is expected to hold an event on Tuesday to introduce the team.

The president-elect told press on Monday he expects to name his nominees for Secretary of Defense and Attorney General later this week.

President-elect Joe Biden announced Sunday he will pick California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to be his health secretary.

Becerra led the defense of the Affordable Care Act last month in the Supreme Court case.

Becerra will oversee the Biden administration's coronavirus response if confirmed by the Senate.

He would be the first Latino to head the department in charge of drugs and vaccines, leading-edge medical research and health insurance programs.
