The United Federal Credit Union is hosting its sixth annual Community Shred Day in Reno Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Members, non-members, and businesses can take a maximum of six boxes of paper items to be shredded. Most items are free, except TVs ($25) and CRT monitors ($10.)
The following items will not be accepted for shredding:
- binders
- cardboard
- plastics
- hard drives
- computer or floppy disks
The actual event will take place at the north parking lot above Mackay Stadium off of Comstock Drive.
All monetary donations will go to STEP2. The non-profit helps women who are suffering from drug addiction, poverty, and domestic violence rebuild their lives, by supplying them with daily necessities. People have been donating extra dishes, new bedding, furniture, and even cash.
The Shred Day event was developed by the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators to promote the confidential and secure shredding of personal papers to help protect individual’s identity.
